A Building Project Is a Big Thing to Take On

A building project is one of the biggest things most people will ever take on. The worries that come with it are entirely reasonable. Will it cost what you were told at the start? Will the work be done properly? Will there be someone there to pick up the phone when you have a question?

At James Burton Construction, those concerns sit at the centre of how we work. Not as an afterthought, but as the starting point.

We price carefully and openly before any work begins. We plan properly, start when we say we will, and keep you in the loop throughout. Every client has a named project administrator from day one, a real person, based in our office, whose job is to be there for you.

Why People Choose Us

Most of the families we build for come to us through personal recommendation. A friend, a neighbour, a family member who has been through the process and wants to tell someone about it.

What they tell people, more than anything, is that they felt looked after. That they always knew what was happening on their home and who to call if they had a question. That the team was approachable, honest when something needed a conversation, and genuinely invested in getting it right.

That kind of word of mouth is something we've worked for over many years, and it's something we protect on every project we take on.

Looked After, Every Step of the Way

A few things come as standard on every project we take on, without needing to be asked for.

From day one, you'll have a dedicated project administrator based in our office. A named point of contact who knows your build, answers the phone, and keeps you updated from the first conversation through to long after completion. No chasing the site team. No wondering who to call. Just someone who knows you, and knows your home.

Before we hand your home over, our team carries out a thorough internal review against our own quality standards. Anything we find, we put right. We then return at twelve weeks and again at twenty-four weeks after you've moved in, to check the work and address anything you've noticed since settling in.

Your neighbours are always in our thoughts too. From how we manage deliveries and noise to how the site is left at the end of each day, we treat the surrounding community with the same respect we give you. It matters to us, and we know it matters to you.

Your Journey with Us

1. First Conversation

You get in touch by phone or through our enquiry form, and we arrange a meeting with one of our team. We'll take the time to understand what you're hoping to achieve, the home you have in mind, and what matters most to you. At that first meeting, we put together a detailed specification of the job so nothing is left to guesswork.

2. Your Quote

We then prepare a careful, transparent quote, usually within two to four weeks, depending on the complexity of your project. We sit down with you to go through it properly, answer any questions, and make any adjustments needed. You'll know exactly what's included and what it will cost before anything is committed.

3. Planning and Preparation

Once you are happy to proceed, the detailed planning begins. We confirm all the necessary surveys, information, and paperwork before anything moves forward, and if you are working with an architect, we liaise with them directly. We then prepare the contract and agree your start date, and before any work begins we introduce you to your dedicated project administrator and your site manager, so you know exactly who is looking after your home from day one.

4. On Site

Once the build is underway, regular communication is a given. Your project administrator is your point of contact throughout. Any variations or additional costs are agreed and documented with you before they're acted on, and you'll receive monthly cost reports so you always know where the budget stands.

"I want every client to feel the same way at handover as they did on the day we first met. Confident, well-looked-after, and glad they chose us. That's the standard we hold ourselves to, and it's why so much of our work comes from people passing our name on."

James Burton

5. Handover and Beyond

As the project nears completion, we take care of all the paperwork for building control, warranties, and certifications. We hand over your finished home along with a homeowner's guide and contact details for every trade involved in the build. Then we return at twelve weeks for our own quality checks, and again at twenty-four weeks to address anything you've noted since moving in. And long after that, if something comes up and you need us, we're still here.

Our Expertise

We focus on the work we do best. Four core areas of expertise, each delivered with the same honesty, care, and attention to detail.

Whichever one brings you to us, the experience is the same. You are guided, kept informed, and looked after from the first conversation onwards.

New Builds

Building a home from the ground up is the biggest project most people will ever commission. We make it feel achievable, taking care of the detail so you can enjoy watching your home take shape.

Here's how we help:

  • We help you understand what's realistic for your plot, your budget, and your vision, before any commitment is made.

  • We handle the surveys, paperwork, and approvals, so you are not left navigating the process alone.

  • We give you a clear, honest price up front, with monthly updates so you always know where the budget stands.

  • We keep you involved at every stage, with a named point of contact who knows your build inside out.

  • We build to last, with our own quality checks before handover and return visits afterwards to make sure everything is right.

Renovations

Reworking an existing home comes with unknowns, particularly with older or period properties. Our experience means we anticipate the surprises before they become problems.

Here's how we help:

  • We take time to understand your home as it is, and what you want it to become.

  • We assess the building properly first, so any structural or hidden issues are identified early, not mid-project.

  • We respect the character of what's already there, blending new work seamlessly with the old.

  • We plan around your life, keeping disruption and mess to a minimum while the work is underway.

  • We keep communication clear throughout, so a project with moving parts never feels overwhelming.

Extensions

Whether you need one more room or a whole new way of living in your home, an extension should feel like it was always meant to be there. We make sure it does.

Here’s how we help:

  • We help you think through what the space could be, not just what you first imagined.

  • We guide you through planning and building regulations, handling the technical side for you.

  • We make sure the new space connects naturally with your existing home, inside and out.

  • We are considerate of your neighbours throughout, managing noise, deliveries, and the site with care.

  • We price transparently from the start, so the cost of your extension holds no surprises.
